New single-story temple in Eugene will serve more than 30,000 members

The location, exterior rendering and new name of a temple coming to Oregon were all released by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Wednesday.

Five months ago, Eugene, Oregon, was one of 20 sites identified for a new temple by President Russel M. Nelson at the end of April general conference.

This temple will now be known as the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple, according to a news release.

A rendering of the temple has been released, but detailed design are still being developed. A groundbreaking date will be announced later.

Where will the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple be built?

• The temple will be built on a 10.5-acre site at the intersection of International Boulevard and Corporate Way in Springfield, a suburb of Eugene. The single-story temple will have approximately 30,000 square feet.

How many temples are in Oregon?

• The Willamette Valley temple will be the third Latter-day Saint temple in the Beaver State. It will join the Portland Oregon and Medford Oregon Temples, and will serve more than 30,000 members.
• There are more than 150,000 Latter-day Saints attending over 300 congregations in Oregon, according to the church’s newsroom.

Which new temples have sites and renderings?

With this announcement, the church has now identified a location and released an exterior rendering for nine of the 20 temples sites identified on April 4. The other eight temples include:

• Helena, Montana
• Casper, Wyoming
• Grand Junction, Colorado
• Farmington, New Mexico
• Burley, Idaho
• Elko, Nevada
• Yorba Linda, California
• Smithfield, Utah

The Helena temple groundbreaking took place less than three months after it was announced.

Locations and renderings for the other 11 temples announced in April — all sites outside the United States — have not yet been released.
