Top 20 performances from Week 6 in Utah high school football

Each week the Deseret News collects high school football stats from around the state, with approximately 85% of the coaches submitting their offensive and defensive stats.

Here’s a look back at some headliner performances from Week 6 (you can also check out the Deseret News’ complete sortable leaders feature for offense, defense and special teams).

Class 6A

Ethan Ecker, Roy — Had a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. He finished with 13 rushing attempts for 112 yards and two touchdowns while piling up 18 tackles on defense as the Royals rallied to defeat Kearns 40-35.

Dakoda Kempthorne, Davis — Rushed for 103 yards on 29 attempts in the Darts’ 26-20 win over Syracuse. He also hauled in six catches for 29 yards through the air.

Cannon DeVries, Weber — Scored three touchdowns, catching two and rushing for another, in Weber’s 63-27 victory over Clearfield. He finished with 144 total yards of offense as well as 10 tackles.

McCae Hillstead, Skyridge — Ran for three touchdowns and tossed another three in Skyridge’s 44-2 victory over the Thunder. By the end of the game, he had 282 passing yards and 167 yards on the ground.

Class 5A

Nate Bushnell, Stansbury — Had a monster game on the ground as he carried the ball 32 times for 184 yards. Stansbury utilized this to control the clock and pick up a 29-14 win over Tooele.

Easton Schank, Cedar Valley — Totaled 227 yards, including 160 on the ground, as he led Cedar Valley to a 36-35 win over Timpanogos. Schank finished with 26 points, including both the game-winning touchdown and two- point conversion with 32 seconds left in the game.

Miles Preston, Park City — Made a huge impact on the defensive side of the ball. He finished with six tackles and two interceptions, including a 78-yard pick-six to give Park City the push it needed to run away with a 41-6 win over Highland.

Lance Whightman, Murray — Rushed for a 65-yard touchdown with 54 seconds to go to clinch Murray’s 28-19 win over Cottonwood. Whightman would finish the game with 193 yards on 19 carries. He also scored a touchdown with just six seconds remaining in the first half.

Zach Smith, Northridge — Hauled in six catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the Knights’ 19-14 win over Woods Cross. The second score flipped a two-point deficit into a five-point victory, as he found the end zone with under four minutes remaining.

Class 4A

Ryder Burton, Springville — Threw 26 passes, 18 of which were complete, for a total of 290 yards. Three of the passes were caught for touchdowns as Springville earned a tough 34-14 road win over Provo.

Keith Adams, Pine View — Averaged 14 yards a rush over the course of 18 attempts, finishing with four touchdowns and 252 yards in Pine View’s 62-29 win over Cedar City.

Will Booth, Ridgeline — Played a large role in Ridgeline’s 35-10 win at Sky View. He tallied seven catches for 95 yards as well as making seven tackles on the other side of the ball.

Class 3A

Alex Cox, Manti — Recorded 20 touches on offense, summing 166 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively he led the Templars with a sack and three total tackles as Manti defeated Carbon 43-21.

Blake Thomas, Grantsville — Carried the ball 10 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns to lead Grantsville to a dominant 41-7 performance over Ben Lomond.

Class 2A

Jacob Walsh, Providence Hall — Ran for 289 yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns in a sensational performance that saw the Patriots shut out Judge Memorial 62-0.

Eric Larsen, Millard — Caught four total passes for Millard in its 46-7 win over Grand. Two were on the offensive side of the ball, including a 46-yard touchdown, while the other two were interceptions that helped keep the momentum on the Eagles side.

Ladd Ivins, San Juan — Had a big game in leading San Juan to a 56-3 win over South Sevier. He grabbed six passes for 142 yards and also recorded seven tackles to lead all Broncos.

Class 1A

Jessaia Moala, Layton Christian — Exploded for 220 yards on just nine attempts, tallying just under 25 yards per carry in LCA’s 54-0 win over Rich. Moala also contributed four tackles on defense.

Parker Crum, Duchesne — Had a big game everywhere on the field as he threw for 135 yards, ran for 51, intercepted a pass on defense, and recorded two tackles. In the end he had five touchdowns and Duchesne left with a 55-6 road win over Monticello.

Easton Jense, Parowan — Led the Rams to a win over Gunnison with a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. Jense rushed for 153 yards on 18 carries while also tracking down nine tackles on defense.
