Their defense would step up and not allow the Pirates to even up the score in the final moments.

“I’m very proud of this team and coaching staff for how we came out in the second half and finished the game. We made some good adjustments. Players showed great heart and pride in execution in all three phases. We got big plays from multiple guys in all three phases. We wanted to send our seniors out of the regular season on a high note, I thought our second-half effort showed how much it mattered to us.”

— Hunter coach Tarell Richards

Riverton 24, Mountain Ridge 21

Riverton outscored the Sentinels 17-0 in the second quarter, which ended up being just enough to hold off a late surge from Ayden Helm and the Mountain Ridge offense. The win sets up a showdown with Bingham next Friday that will allow the Silverwolves to clinch a share of the Region 3 title with a win.

“Great game. So many great performances by so many players. Sau did Sau things and ran tough all night. His line and center Kyller Pickle played awesome. Lincoln Whiting stayed tough after some calls went against him. He came in clutch with the rest of FG block by creating a pressure on their FG unit. Dylan Turville came in clutch with some pressure kicks that ended up being the difference. Still improving and still need to clean up mistakes going into playing our region leader Bingham.”

— Riverton coach Jody Morgan

Cole made a big reception on fourth down to keep the drive alive then Will Penrod put it in the end zone to seal the win. Brian Gordon was huge for us on defense with several sacks and pass defenses. I am very grateful for such a great senior class tonight. What a way to end their regular season.”

— Springville coach Willy Child

Jace Welsh scored four touchdowns, including two late in the game to cut Wasatch’s lead to single digits, but in the end the Quezon Villa and Josh Sanders connection was too powerful. That combo scored a 50-yard touchdown right before halftime and then came out of the break where they connected for another pair, this time from 45 and 95 yards out respectively.

“It was awesome to see our seniors get to come out and bounce back to get a win on our field to finish the regular season. We feel like we are really coming into our own and clicking going into the playoffs. We’ve got a lot of great ball players who can go in space.
