Data Networks [19659002] 1 World Wide WEB: Fundamentals
It was born as an initiative of CERN (the European Laboratory of Particle Physics) to offer
information using a network, and from this it was transformed into a set of protocols and
conventions, and some software. It is a system that uses hypertext and multimedia to make
easier to access and understand all over the world.

W3 is conceived as a system in which all information can be consulted from
simple form and consistent, that is, ensuring that the user only has to think about what he wants
to see, forgetting his storage format and the applications he needs for it. It is about
changing the situation of having different systems installed in an organization with different
information stored in each one, which is accessed whenever there is knowledge
of the particularities of each, on the other in which using a single program you can
consult different information in different systems. Before seeing how the service is used
we will see some important concepts related to it.
1.1 Concepts
1.1.1 Hypertext / hypermedia

A hypertext document contains within the text a series of links or references
(hyperlinks) that allow access to other parts of the document, or to other different documents
which have some relation to the one that referenced them. Hypertext is a method of
presenting information where a series of words selected by the author, can be
A expanded @
to provide other information about the concept they represent. With the
hypertext, the computer makes it easier to follow references, forgetting the sequential organization
of the pages of the document. The author designs the hypertext document so that it is
easily traversed and communicates the essential ideas in the most effective way.

In WWW the documents do not have to contain only text, on the contrary, what happens
is that along with it appear images, sounds or animations. Thus the concept of hypertext
extends and talks about hypermedia, passing the documents to have more complete contents with
these types of resources (image, sound, animations, videos) to which links are applied as well
than text
1.1.2 HTML Hypertext Markup Language
This is the language used to write or describe web pages. A WEB page consists
basically in a file with text documents that contains special HTML codes. Those
codes tell the browser how to display the text of the document (where it is in text
on the screen, the size and color it will appear in …). The HTML codes can be used
also as an indication of the placement of graphs, lines and other elements. Through the
years the HTML system has been expanded to provide new codes in order to
create dynamic and interesting WEB pages, with elements such as animation, sound, and video
(VRML, XML) .
