SALT LAKE CITY — A Midvale man has been arrested after police said he threatened online to “shoot up” a children’s hospital.
Terek Wesley Fleming, 21, was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of terroristic threats and threats of violence.
In an online message thread Tuesday night, Fleming told a woman he had plans to “possibly shoot up a children’s hospital and then take my own life,” according to a jail affidavit.
Fleming also encouraged the woman to “kill her husband and make it look like an accident,” the affidavit says.
The woman called police in Sanpete County, who then reported the threat to other agencies. Unified police ultimately found Fleming and made the arrest.
When questioned by police, Fleming said the statements “were made as a joke and he was not serious,” according to the affidavit.
Several Utah hospitals took security measures starting Tuesday night as a result of the incident, Unified police said — Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City was on lockdown for 13 hours, while Sanpete Valley Hospital in Mount Pleasant remained on lockdown into Wednesday. Shriners Hospitals for Children-Salt Lake City was on heightened security, the department said.
