Employees with Integrated Deicing Services show off their skills during a de-icing demonstration at the Salt Lake City International Airport on Friday. According to Randy Hubbell, general manager of Integrated Deicing Services, the de-icing process, which involves spraying propylene glycol on the plane to remove snow, slush or ice, can take 10 minutes if there’s just a frost. If snow is falling on the aircraft, it may take 20 to 40 minutes to apply the de-icing solution. According to the company, crews had to de-ice a plane on Sept. 30. Any time temperatures hit 50 degrees or below crews are on standby and ready to go. “The reason we do it is to provide a safe, clean aircraft and get them to their destinations, Hubbell said.
