SALT LAKE CITY — A Greenville, Beaver County, man who police say hit his brother-in-law with his truck before severely beating him with a pole because he was tired of being belittled by him, is due in court Monday.
Jacobsen Jacob Pelt, 31, is charged in 5th District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; plus attempted murder and aggravated assault, second-degree felonies.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
On Oct. 10. Pelt and his brother-in-law were consuming alcohol and gathering wood when the two men got into an argument, according to charging documents.
“Pelt got into a white Ford Ranger, put the vehicle in reverse and struck him with the rear of the vehicle,” the charges state. While the man was still on the ground, Pelt got out of the SUV and allegedly struck him several times with a T-post.
When police were called to the hospital to investigate, they found the victim “was bleeding from a large wound on the top of his head and had a severe laceration on his left arm,” the charges state. The cut on the man’s head required ten staples to close.
“(The victim) stated to me that he was in fear for his life. He mentioned that he had been in altercations before, but had never felt like he would be killed, like he felt tonight. He stated that he was unable to fight back due to being knocked down by the vehicle and before he could regain his strength he began to be assaulted with the pole,” the charges state.
Pelt was arrested the next day in Richfield.
“Pelt stated several times that he was agitated with (his brother-in-law) because of the way (he) belittles him and picks on him,” the charges state.
Pelt told police that the two men had been in fights before, and that the brother-in-law had knocked him unconscious a few years ago.
When told he would be charged with attempted murder, “Pelt did not show any emotion or made any argument with the charges,” court documents state.
