
CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man was shot and killed by police Monday afternoon, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office said.
The name of the man has not been released.
Cedar City police officers responded to a home near 820 South and Sunset Drive about 1 p.m. after receiving a phone call from a woman who said her husband was threatening her, her adult son and law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.
The man approached the officers while pointing a handgun at them and police fired multiple rounds at him, the sheriff’s office said.
Law enforcement immediately began life-saving efforts, the sheriff’s office said, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured.
The incident is under investigation by the Iron/Garfield/Beaver Critical Incident Task Force.
