SALT LAKE CITY — Utah inched one spot closer to a coveted top four spot, coming in at No. 5 in the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday.
The Utes (11-1) were No. 6 in last week’s rankings. But with Alabama losing 48-45 to Auburn, the Utes were able to move up one spot.
The Crimson Tide dropped to No. 12.
The top four stayed the same: Ohio State at No. 1, LSU at No. 2, Clemson at No. 3 and Georgia at No. 4.
Up next for the Utes is the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, where they’ll face No. 13 Oregon at 6 p.m. MST at Levi’s Stadium. The game will be televised on ABC.
Other conference championship games — all to be played Saturday — for Utah to pay attention to include:
- Big 12: No. 6 Oklahoma vs. No. 7 Baylor, 10 a.m.
- SEC: No. 2 LSU vs. No. 4 Georgia, 2 p.m.
- ACC: No. 3 Clemson vs. No. 23 Virginia, 5:30 p.m.
- Big Ten: No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 8 Wisconsin, 6 p.m.
The final CFP rankings will be revealed during the selection show on Sunday at 10 a.m. on ESPN.
