Your Weekend: Will the Utah Jazz exact sweet, sweet revenge?

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell (45) crashes into the front two rows as the Utah Jazz and the Golden State Warriors play an NBA basketball game at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. The Golden State Warriors’ depleted roster comes to Vivint Arena on Friday

SALT LAKE CITY — We want you to live a balanced life, sure. But who are we kidding, it’s Christmas time. Gift yourself with a (likely) Utah Jazz victory, an indie singer-songwriter at the top of her game and a few Christmas-themed events happening in Salt Lake this weekend. Read on for details.

Jazz vs. Warriors

The higher they rise, the farther they fall. (Is that how the saying goes?) Case in point: the Golden State Warriors. The most dominant NBA team of the decade is facing its toughest season in years, following the departure of Kevin Durant and the injuries to Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. The Warriors’ depleted roster comes to Vivint Arena on Friday. These two squads have had some heated matchups in recent years. We just hope both teams play hard. Dec. 13, 7 p.m., Vivint Arena, 301 W. South Temple, prices vary (vivintarena.com)

Utah Symphony’s ‘A Celebration of Christmas’

Yes, the Utah Symphony will be playing some Christmas classics on Friday and Saturday night. But wait — there’s more. The Symphony will also mix in Leonard Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from ‘West Side Story.’” Yule love it. Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 14, 5:30 p.m., Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, $10-$92, children ages 5 and older are welcome, no babies admitted (801-355-2787 or artsaltlake.org)

Angel Olsen

Olsen’s “All Mirrors” is one of the most stunning albums of 2019. “The indie musician sheds the jangly, lo-fi indie-rock of her previous albums for a lush soundscape full of dramatic synths, propulsive rhythms and, oh yes, a full orchestra,” we wrote in our recent winter concerts preview. The indie songstress headlines the Depot for a show we’ve been dying to see. Dec. 13, 8 p.m., The Depot, 13 N. 400 West, $30 (depotslc.com)

Made in Utah Winter Fest 2019

If you’re into winter wonderlands generally, may we suggest the Made in Utah Winter Fest? For the second consecutive year, the event brings a family-friendly market full of local musicians, artisans and other product makers to the Gateway. And hey, it’s free. Dec. 14-15, 21-22, the Gateway, 18 N. Rio Grande St., free (madeinutahfest.com)

‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’

It wouldn’t be the Christmas season without Clark Griswold falling off his roof. Brewvies Cinema Pub hosts a brunchtime screening of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” on Sunday. Fun fact: The film was written by ’80s cinema mastermind John Hughes. That’s how you know it’s good. Dec. 15, 11 a.m., Brewvies Cinema Pub, 677 S. 200 West, ages 21 and older permitted (brewvies.com)
