Multiple reports suggest Kobe Bryant’s memorial has been taken down

The public memorial created by fans outside Staples Center to honor the late Kobe Bryant has been taken down, KTLA reports.

What’s going on: Officials cleaned up the flowers, jerseys, toys and basketballs on Monday beginning at 4 a.m. local time.

  • Staples Center president Lee Zeidman said on Twitter that the arena began cleaning up the area.
  • The Staples Center boxed up 1,353 basketballs dedicated to Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, who died tragically more than a week ago in a helicopter crash that took the lives of seven others.
  • Ziedman: “We began the cleanup at 4am ⁦@LALIVE⁩ XBox Plaza and we have now boxed 1,353 basketballs dedicated to Kobe and Gianna. Truly amazing the outpouring of love from the City of Angels in honor of the 9 who lost their lives 1/26/20.”

What’s next: Officials told KTLA that some of the items will be given to the Bryant family.

Bigger picture: People from around the country traveled to the Staples Center to honor Kobe in the wake of his death.

  • ABC-7 said: “Fans began gathering at L.A. Live hours after the crash and continued to pay their respects throughout the week, including on Friday when the Lakers returned to the court for the first time since Bryant’s death in a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers.”
