SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department on Monday confirmed it currently has 25 officers who are quarantining due to COVID-19.
Of those 25, 15 have tested positive for coronavirus, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks. The officers who have tested positive range from detectives to those working in patrol and other divisions within the department, he said.
The police department declined to give the conditions of the officers, or say if any officer has been hospitalized due COVID-19.
Horrocks said the department has been quarantining officers who are exposed or showing symptoms for six months now.
“We’re doing a lot of quarantines out of an abundance of caution,” he said. “We’re taking the precautions to help both officers and the public stay safe. As a general rule, we put those practices into place early on.”
Officers are required to be tested and get a negative result before they are allowed to return to work. Horrocks, said the department will continue to quarantine officers as needed.
