SALT LAKE CITY — The owner of a used car dealership is accused of defaulting on vehicles he purchased and then not delivering titles to customers.
Abdul Kisana, 31, of Sandy, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with two counts of equity skimming, a third-degree felony; and three counts of dealer failing to deliver a title, a class A misdemeanor.
In September 2019, Kisana purchased 61 vehicles at an auction in California, according to charging documents. Kisana received the titles for all the vehicles, but his payments totaling more than $2.2 million defaulted, the charges state.
Kisana is the owner of Specialized Sales and Leasing, 702 S. Main. In October 2019, another car dealer purchased a Mercedes GLC 43 and then sold it to a customer. But Kisana never delivered the title or returned the dealer’s calls, according to the charges.
In November 2019, another man purchased a Honda Odyssey from Kisana and never received the title. When he went back to his dealership in January, he found the building vacant and the lot empty, the charges state.
In December 2019, a third customer reported buying a Subaru from Kisana and never receiving the title or a call back, according to the charges.
