Before fielding questions following Super Bowl LV on Sunday night, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed the accident that involved his son, Britt Reid, and left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition.
“My heart goes out to all those who were involved in the accident,” Reid said. “In particular, the family with the little girl, who is fighting for her life. It’s a tough situation, I can’t comment on it any more than what I am here. ... But, just from a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for everybody involved in that.”
Britt Reid, the Chiefs’ outside linebacker coach, was involved in a three-car accident near Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night that injured two children. NFL reporter Jason LaCanfora reported Sunday that the 5-year-old involved in the crash remains in critical condition in the hospital with a brain injury. A 4-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to nj.com.
Britt Reid did not coach in the Super Bowl, per ESPN’s Dianna Rusinni. The team had no further comment Saturday after a Friday statement saying it was gathering information, according to the Associated Press. TV station KSHB reported Reid told an officer on the scene he had “two or three drinks.”
“It’s a very tragic situation, and you want to keep that in the back of your mind and give prayers to the families involved,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said.
