Desert Hills beats Pine View to take hold of Region 9

Desert Hills trailed by eight points at halftime, but a 44-20 second half led the Thunder to a 64-48 win that puts them in great position for their first region championship since 2017. The Thunder were led by 19 points, including nine in the third quarter, from Sa’de Turlington. She also had seven rebounds and four assists. Enid Vaifanua had 17 points and four steals and Shailee Bundy finished with an 11-point and 10-rebound double-double.

Canyon View sneaks past Cedar City in quest for first round bye

The Falcons were able to pick up a crucial 45-39 win while hosting Cedar City. Canyon View came into the game on the outside looking in of a first round bye for the state tournament, but defending home court against a solid team could help them jump in front of that line. Addison Newman had six steals to go along with her 13 points while Jaden Johnson led the offense with five assists.

“We’ve been telling the girls all season to keep working— that we have potential to do great things.” said Canyon View coach Jaycee Slack. “We have finally started to peak at the end of the season.”

The Bobcats trailed by a dozen at half, but a massive run that spanned the entire second half led to the Grizzlies first region loss of the season. Sky View was led by 25 points and three shots from downtown by Macy Hellstern. Other key plays included Gracie Rigby grabbing two offensive boards and following them up with putback layups and Kaytlin Smart drawing a momentum swinging charge.
