3-year-old Cache County boy drowns in river behind his home

LEWISTON, Cache County — A 3-year-old went missing Saturday afternoon and was later found in a river behind his northern Utah home.

The child had last been seen riding a battery powered four-wheeler, which was found in the river, according to Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi. He said first responders reached the boy and “life saving measures were immediately started.”

The child was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive.

“Our initial investigation indicates this is a tragic accident,” Bartschi said. “We would like to remind the public to take this unfortunate event as a reminder to tell your kids you love them, give them an extra hug and kiss, and to always cherish the moment.”

“Our sincerest condolences to the family for their loss and our thoughts go out to all who responded today,” the lieutenant added.
