SPRINGVILLE — A Springville man was arrested Saturday and accused of killing three kittens and injuring two others.
Brennan Skelly, 26, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of five counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, two counts of domestic violence in front of a child, assault, DUI, carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, damaging a phone and disorderly conduct.
A woman arrived home from work on Saturday night “and found three dead and two injured kittens” at her Springville residence. She then confronted Skelly about what happened and noted he had been heavily drinking, according to a police affidavit.
Skelly stated “he didn’t know” what had happened to the cats “because he had blacked out,” the affidavit states.
The woman made arrangements to stay the night with a neighbor and then asked her roommate to watch the rest of her kittens to make sure they did not get hurt. She said she went into the bathroom to get the rest of the kittens when she told police she heard Skelly opening their gun safe.
The woman attempted to wrestle a gun away from Skelly, who knocked her to the ground and then threw her phone when she attempted to call police, according to the affidavit. A roommate then called police using another phone.
Skelly drove away before officers arrived but was spotted and pulled over a few blocks away. He was given a Breathalyzer test which determined his blood alcohol level to be 0.213%, or more than four times the legal driving limit.
