The drive-in concert, which surged in popularity last summer, is making a return in 2021

As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, large concert venues are starting to reopen and artists are announcing in-person tours once more.

But the drive-in concert, which surged in popularity last summer, is still making a return in 2021.

On Monday, Bon Jovi announced that a new show will appear at 300 drive-in and outdoor theaters across the United States, Canada and Ireland. The show, premiering on May 22, is airing at three drive-in theaters across Utah: Redwood Drive-In in West Valley City; Motor Vu Theatre in Tooele; and Basin Drive-In in Mount Pleasant, Sanpete County.

Bon Jovi’s upcoming show — advertised as a “brand new, exclusive full-length concert” featuring the band’s greatest hits — follows the success of the Encore Drive-in Nights 2020 series that featured artists like Garth Brooks, Metallica, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Kane Brown during a time when in-person entertainment was virtually shut down because of the pandemic.

“The pandemic has taught us that there are new avenues for live entertainment, and this model is one of the safest and most innovative options for world-class, fun events for the whole family,” Walter Kinzie, CEO of Encore Drive-In Nights, said in a statement. “There are millions of fans who don’t usually attend live shows, whether it’s because they live far away from the big touring arenas or because of the cost. Artists can now connect with these fans in a completely new way.”

Bon Jovi — with a slew of hits including “Livin’ on a Prayer” and You Give Love a Bad Name” — was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, the Deseret News reported. Tickets for the show — running at $68 for vehicles of up to six people — can be purchased at bonjoviconcert.com beginning April 29th at 10 a.m. MT.
