BYU men’s volleyball swept by Hawaii in national championship

The Cougars fell to the Rainbow Warriors 3 sets to 0, finishing as national runner-up for the fifth time in program history.

BYU men’s volleyball’s national championship drought will continue for at least another year.

The Cougars lost to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Saturday night in the national championship, 3 sets to 0.

Hawaii (17-1) won only the second national title in program history, while BYU (20-4) finishes as the national runner-up for the fifth time total and first time since 2017.

The Rainbow Warriors were the better team from start to finish, winning the first set 25-21 and the second 25-19, before closing out the championship in dominant fashion with a 25-16 win in the third and final set.

The Cougars have now lost nine consecutive sets in national championship action, going back to 2016.
