The month of June is typically a time when the BYU football program receives a lot of commitments for future recruiting classes, as prospects are at the Provo, Utah, school for camps and coaches extend scholarship offers.

That, of course, wasn’t the case last year as camps had to be shuttered because of the pandemic. As of June 1, however, schools have been able to host recruits once again for the first time in over a year, and on Tuesday, BYU received its first commitment for the 2022 recruiting class from a camper.

The prospect to pledge is tight end Cooper Ross from Heritage Academy in Mesa, Arizona, who announced his commitment on Twitter.

According to his Twitter bio, Ross is 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds. Jeff Hansen of 247 Sports observed Tuesday night that while Ross plays tight end, he was offered a scholarship by defensive coaches.

Ross’ Twitter account indicates that he has one other scholarship offer, from Northern Arizona, which he received earlier this month.

Ross becomes the seventh prospect to commit to BYU as part of its 2022 recruiting class.
